Burning PS2 games
Okay I've been hearing mixed opinions on the intrawebz so I was wondering for those with a PS2 modchip and burnt games, what DVD media do you use? I don't want to kill my laser just yet because I have so many things to complete before making the switch to PS3. Need to know, brand name like TDK, Imation, whether I should go for a + or a - and typically what burn speeds are the best for this kind of thing?

Just use whatever aye. And burn at whatever speed you want. If you're that concerned with laser death, don't buy dodgy princo 20c a pop dvds... buy TDKs or whatever. Really though, DVD media are all made by a handful of manufacturers and just rebranded so it's all the same.

Burn at whatever speed. Differences in error rate at 1x as compared to full speed on modern drives is not worth worrying about.

It will be pretty obvious if your ps2 is having trouble reading the disc anyway. You'll be able to hear the laser going mental... so you can just eject the dvd before any major damage.

RE modchips and laser death... what modchip do you have? 5v modchips tend to burn out lasers faster if 'unpatched'. If it's a recent modchip it should be alright i think?

Also, if you have a v12 ps2, they're also more prone to premature laser death (modded or not). Dodgy Sony build quality.

http://www.prs.za.net/catalog/doc/ps2_identify.pdf <--- is how to check if you have a v12.

And yeah... if you want to be a cheaparse and not pay for games, you can't really complain if your laser ends up dying after a few months yeah. That's the trade-off.

Piracy is bad mmmmkay :p.
